About the Kolorlan System

Portrait of Katie Dean

The Kolorlan System is here to help you reconnect to your personal blueprint of health, wholeness, energy, peace and joy. I am Katie Dean, creator of Kolorlan and this system evolved from my personal journey recovering from twenty years living with chronic fatigue syndrome.

The name, Kolorlan, comes from my Cornish roots. I went back to the original Cornish language and fused two words: Kolor - meaning colour - and Lan - meaning Sacred Place. So, literally, this translates into Sacred Place of Colour. This speaks to the many layers of Kolorlan: on one level, it is a playful relaxing past-time that will connect you to your innate joy and creativity. On a deeper level, this is using the tools of colour frequency, combined with Sacred Geometry, and you can use it for deep self-exploration, perhaps even spiritual growth...whilst still having fun, relaxing and connecting to your innate joy and creativity!

So, I invite you to explore and enjoy the Kolorlan System at whatever level feels good to you. Trust that you will benefit from it in exactly the best way for your personal journey.

The Evolution of Kolorlan

The multi-layered nature of Kolorlan deeply reflects my own personal journey. When I first fell ill, my awareness sat completely within the physical realm: I knew my body was sick, and I believed I would find answers from the medical profession. For many years, I continued to hold that belief, living at times in a state of denial about my illness, then a state of powerlessness: "I just need the research scientists to do more and find a cure for me."

All the while, I had an underlying sense that I was not meant to be feeling this way. That drove me to keep seeking answers. I gradually transitioned from conventional medicine to seeking help within functional medicine: still very much in the physical plane. When that helped, but didn't cure, I found myself (very reluctantly!) exploring my inner world of emotions and beliefs. Again, I made progress, but still felt there had to be more. Finally, I ended up exploring Energy Medicine, which took me down a huge rabbit hole exploring aspects of spirituality and metaphysics, and ended up with me finding my own energy and then qualifying as a Bioenergetic Health Coach!

So, in a relatively short space of time, I personally experienced an incredibly journey from deep fatigue and burn out, to energy and vitality, and from a very materialistic worldview to a deeply spiritual belief system. For me, the change was sufficiently rapid that I can still remember how it felt to be at each different state of evolution. And I wish to welcome you at whatever state you sit right now. Some of you will end up evolving to new states. Some of you will be perfectly content in your current state. Neither of those options is better or worse. Whatever unfolds is perfect for you, and the Kolorlan System offers you the unconditional love and freedom to experience whatever you experience...

How will the Kolorlan System help and support you?

I could sit here and offer you a sales pitch of bold claims about how Kolorlan will change your life. I know it has the power to do that because I've personally experienced it. But that is my experience: your experience will be unique to you.

I can share how some other people have experienced it:

"Katie's Kolorlan workshop combines sacred geometry with the healing properties of colour and the calming, meditative effects of colouring-in shapes. So, you gain all the usual benefits of colouring-in – those moments of focus and concentration – given an extra layer of meaning with Katie's creativity and guidance. The difference between Katie's workshop and colouring-in mandalas is that Katie has created her own patterns based on the sacred geometry of the Vesica Pisces, and she talks you through meanings and symbolism. Your focus is provided by her instruction cards that guide you to use specific colours from her collection of 15 chakra-related colours. As you colour-in you explore your individual creativity through your choice of colour for specific shapes. It's amazing to see the variety of colourful patterns that individuals create from colouring-in the same image in their own way. I found the workshop interesting, creative, calming and contemplative – on one level it's mindful and absorbing – on another level it has the capability to be a transcendent experience." Lynne S.

"Thank you for holding your lovely workshop on Friday. It was great to take some time out for me, in what was a particularly busy week. It felt indulgent to do this but that was a great part of the pleasure too. I really enjoyed using the cards to dictate to me which colours I should use, giving me little challenges to create pleasing designs even with colours I wouldn't naturally choose. I really also enjoyed learning about what the colours represent, beyond what we might obviously think of. I felt very relaxed after the workshop and will definitely be colouring again!" Suzanne R.

But mostly, I invite you to try it for yourself. You can certainly go "all in" and get the complete Kolorlan System to explore right away. That will give you both the opportunity to colour and the potential to explore your inner world. Alternatively, if you are more interested in just colouring and relaxing, visit the Kolorlan art supplies where you will find greetings cards, postcards, canvases, the gel pens and the colour cards so you can just create and relax!

If you already have all or part of the Kolorlan supplies, and you're looking to explore your inner world, then take a look at the Kolorlan Practices. These combine special shapes with specific colours and meditation practices to support inner exploration and invite healing. You can find practices designed to work with specific issues that may be challenging you. I'm adding more all the time, and would love to hear requests from you if there is something you need to help you. You can also check out my in-person and online workshops.

The "Method behind the madness!"

The purpose of the system is to use a set of colours, linked to the 15 Chakras, which are, in turn, linked to the 15 dimensions of our Universe, to explore and reconnect your inner world.

And, the purpose of reconnecting to your inner world? Well, that's about allowing more energy and flow into your life. It increases your ability to manifest your true desires and stop self-sabotaging. And yes, this is based in science!

Our subconscious minds contain a whole array of beliefs about ourselves and our world, plus trapped emotions from previous traumas that haven't fully healed. When our conscious minds step up with a desire, we can manifest it with ease...as long as there is nothing blocking it in our subconscious.

If there are subconscious blocks, we won't see or recognise them - that's why they're subconscious - but our central nervous system knows they are there. So, the central nervous system responds by alerting the body to a potential threat. The body can respond in a number of different ways, but all of them generally tend towards limiting our creative capacity in some way.

In some cases, the limitation creates mental or emotional blocks and reduces our creativity, closing us down to possibilities. From our conscious awareness, this looks like "bad luck" or even self-sabotage. Think about things like your habit of forgetting to set your alarm when you really need to wake up early to get to an important meeting. Every time it happens, you curse yourself and swear you'll never do it again. But it keeps on happening...and will keep happening until you recognise this is a signal from your subconscious. Something in there feels it will be dangerous for you to attend that really important meeting. There is a disconnect between your conscious and subconscious, and this seeming self-sabotage is the nudge to invite you to explore.

In other cases, the limitation is physical: this was true for me. My body had become so disconnected that it manifested a very serious illness to take me out of action and away from a life path that felt deeply dangerous. Was that life path really dangerous? No: but it wasn't fully in alignment with my soul's desire, so that had formed a set of subconscious patterns that I needed to understand and reintegrate. Then, magically, I regained my health and energy.

So, the model is simple. Identify and reconnect with your "lost" parts. The process is simple: just become aware of them and accept them. But your nervous system and ego mind are likely to fear this process and do all they can to resist it. That is why few of us can simply sit down and "change our mind" or "change our behaviour". We have to follow this process gradually, constantly keeping an eye on the safety of the nervous system.

And that is where the Kolorlan System comes in. Yes, you are being invited to explore your inner world, so perhaps encounter memories that are painful, or see aspects of yourself that you prefer not to acknowledge. But at the same time, you are also colouring, anchoring into your body in the present moment of safety, and just allowing as much - or as little - as feels comfortable right now. At the end of the session, you get a beautiful piece of art: a representation of the beauty of you and your soul. No matter what releases or stays temporarily stuck, the experience is safe, pleasurable and fun.

I can personally testify to the fact that the process of healing, of addressing trauma, of reconnecting your lost (shadow) parts, takes time. It requires regular, dedicated practice. But that doesn't mean the practice has to be a chore. After all, if you can do this through a process that you enjoy, and which brings you a beautiful result, no matter what, why would you stop practicing? The Kolorlan System invites you to let go of the resistance, open up to creativity and joy, and simply experience whatever unfolds. So, would you like to give it a try?
